At Wote Street People, people are our strength. We care about our candidates, and we create strong bonds with businesses in the Basingstoke area. This extensive network of people helps us match the right person to the right job, making our clients and candidates (and us) happy. Networking with purpose in the local area is hugely valuable.

We like networking at the M3 Job Club because the return is two-fold: we meet new people, and we get to give back to the community by sharing our skills and expertise to help people get back into work. So far, the community-based charity has supported 1000 people back into employment through ‘Get Back to Work’ workshops, coaching and mentoring.

A new kind of networking

It’s no secret that a professional network is both a skill and an investment that takes time and consistent effort to grow. Networking events can often feel awkward as you make small talk while trying to remember names, swap business cards and think of something humorous to say.

But volunteering for the M3 Job Club is a different way to establish relationships in the local area – you’ll connect with other companies and share a common purpose. With similar values and ethics, the chances are you will find compatible people to do business with.

The partner support network is formed by local businesses leaders who donate their time and knowledge to support the job club members. The areas of expertise currently range from marketing to business coaching to recruitment – and there’s always room for more! If you feel that you have some knowledge and experience that would be beneficial for the members, then let Maxine know.

Using your skills for the greater good can open doors for your business and expand your network.

For the greater good

Maxine also volunteers for apprenticeship company Basingstoke ITEC because firstly she believes there is another path into a career rather than university, and secondly is gives her the opportunity to network with other companies who do the same. Volunteering isn’t just about business development, it’s about finding like-minded people and businesses that you’d like to work with in the future.

Maxine isn’t the only member of the Wote Street team who volunteers – Tracy volunteers for the Reading, Newbury and Basingstoke Branch of Thames Valley CIPD.  Having worked in HR previously she’s keen to keep her knowledge updated.  She says,

Volunteering for the local committee keeps me involved.  We arrange face to face and online events for members (from student to executive level).  It is a great way for me to give back whilst at the same time building my network and keeping my knowledge up to date.
